In the first round, half the Big-10 teams invited to bowl games played: three playoff games and three lower tier Bowl Games. In the first weekend of playoff games, Penn State wore its "Generations of Greatness" alternate set at home and Ohio State wore its all-scarlet outfit at home. Indiana went mostly all white in loss at Notre Dame. All three games were won easily by the favorites.
In the second set of games, Rutgers and USC wore their standard road uniform and Nebraska wore its standard home set. Rutgers found a way to lose, and USC found a way to win. Nebraska won a workmanlike game.
The biggest group of games involved more playoff and bowls around New Years. Washington and Oregon were the only teams that trotted out special or new combos. But Illinois wore a script logo on their helmet and Minnesota did a double sided gopher face on their helmet, while Ohio State did a subtle rose pattern helmet stripe. The Semifinals involved the #2 and #3 Big10 teams.
