Big 10 in the Post Season

All the Big-10 bowls are done and the first 2 rounds of Playoffs in the books. Oregon played and won two games in this post season so far. The Big-10 is 9-4 this postseason: the losers this postseason have been USC, Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State.  Indiana vs Oregon next week for a spot in the Natty.

Big 10 Championship: December 6, 2025

The top 2 teams in the country and conference square off. Both red teams as well. Neither Indiana or Ohio State has pulled any special uniform combos all season and they continue the trend in this game.

Week 14: Rivalry Week November 28-29, 2025

The majority of the Big-10 were fighting their rivals. Oregon wore a classic combo—but for the first time wince 1997! and Purdue went all black with script helmet. All the rest were standard issue combos, with the battle for LA being a traditional color-on-color.

Week 13: November 22, 2025

Minnesota, playing at Wrigley Field in Chicago, opted to decorate their helmet with ivy, while Northwestern wore their annual Gothic uniform. Oregon wore more black for their big game against USC, but the rest of the Big 10 was normal.

Week 12: November 14-15, 2025

The second week of Veteran/Military commemoration happened with a heavy dose of camo and more flags:

Washington pulled out a new all-camo purple and gold set. Illinois and MSU were much more subtle by putting camo in their helmet stripe. Flag decals appeared on Illinois, Northwestern and Washington.

Week 11: November 7-8, 2025

A pretty quiet slate of game with no team pulling out any special uniforms, but Iowa and Rutgers did flag decals on their logo for Veterans Day.

Week 10: November 1, 2025

One third of the conference was off this weekend, and the rest had an odd mix of Halloween and Military appreciation.

Minnesota especially was odd with all black uniform but with a white helmet that had a random patriotic stripe. Nebraska resurrected its "Blackshirt" set which IMHO looked pretty good.

Another funny thing is 9 of the 12 teams playing opted for mono below the neck.

Week 9: October 25, 2025

This week and next are the closest to Halloween so often you get some uni-costumes, but not much this weekend.

Oregon went for its long-teased Grateful Dead tribute in black and tie-dye.

There were several dark vs light matchups with Minnesota in its mono-white with gopher helmet against an all-black Iowa. Michigan went mostly all white vs. MSU in its all green. Rutgers and Purdue wore complimentary black and gold. Five teams on the road when mono white below the neck.

Week 8: October 17-18, 2025

Throwbacks are popping up for various homecoming games:

Northwestern sported a "fauxback" that remembers the 1995 season and 1996 Rose Bowl team. But honestly the only thing that recreates that uniform is the black jersey used in Rose Bowl and retro N with wildcat head. The rest would seem to be a a melange of 1990s Northwestern graphic looks like a rad number font and cool Wildcats brushstroke! If they wanted to really throwback they'd wear purple pants and purple helmet like they did 5 years ago.

A video explaining the black jersey:

UCLA brought back its annual powder blue 1960s throwback which is way more of a real throwback.

Michigan State reprised its white helmet with retro "Gruff" decal.

Week 7: October 10-11, 2025

A few special uniforms this week:

  • Washington—on Friday night against all-white Rutgers—wore their all-black ensemble, which seems pretty similar to their "Eclipse/World of Warcraft" special from last season's Friday night blackout. Some call it the Adidas "Strategy" uniform.
  • Wisconsin threw it back to the 1990s-ish—could you tell? Oh yeah the W is old-school and they added a retro badger logo on sleeves, but not much else is different.
  • Penn State played in one of the versions of their "Generation of Greatness" set. Unfortunate timing after 2 weeks of non-greatness. And to be honest it is so similar to their normal set except for white collar, slightly different font, helmet number, pant stripes, and too-small retro lion logo.
  • Minnesota pulled out their throwback helmet.
  • Oregon opted for an uncommon (if you'd believe it) green and black combo of "normal" parts.
  • Illinois went full pumpkin orange mono!

Week 6: October 4, 2025

A pretty normal weekend especially since Oregon was off.

Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State all went completely mono-white and Michigan went mono blue.

In a nice synergy, all the teams that wear white helmets wore white pants and all the teams that wear metallic helmets had matching pants. And the only team to not match their helmet to their pants was Illinois

In an unusual move UW—on the road at Maryland—wore a rare gold/white/gold combo (looking more like UCLA) for a first time since the 1990s. It apparently is a move to remember the 1982 Aloha Bowl victory over Maryland, which was the only previous game between these two.

Week 5: September 27, 2025

Week 5 and pretty much all normal. Oregon did go with a black and white look for second week in a row, but all other teams were standard, with many teams idle!

Week 4: September 19-20, 2025

Conference play started for most teams except for some in-state non-conference rivalry games in Washington, Oregon, and Indiana. Oregon trotted out a brand spanking new one-off uniform to honor Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman.

This week seemed to be like that old joke "What is black and white and red all over?"...as five teams played in mostly mono black or white, while the only colored jerseys were four of the red teams.

Maryland at Wisconsin was a beautiful all-red and white affair, Michigan at Nebraska was a nice red-white-and-blue game. While a battle of Greek warriors happened with MSU Spartans vs. USC Trojans for the first time since 1990.

Saturday, September 13, 2025

Week 3: September 12-13, 2025

Conference play starts for 4 teams and several Big 10 teams on the road. Several teams went full mono: Michigan State, Northwestern and Purdue.

Saturday, September 6, 2025

Week 2: Sept 5-6, 2025

Another week with mostly home teams so colorful and mostly traditional. Minnesota went full-mono for second week, this time maroon with giant gopher logo on one side of the helmet. Oregon went all green. MSU went black and white, Northwestern went with black pants, and UCLA wore white pants.

Tuesday, September 2, 2025

Week 1: Aug 28-30, 2025

All but two of the teams were at home, so a colorful and traditional look across the board for the 2025 opener, even with Oregon wearing about as old-school look as they muster. Minnesota and Northwestern were the only team to go full-mono.

Bowl Games and Playoff 2024-25

In the first round, half the Big-10 teams invited to bowl games played: three playoff games and three lower tier Bowl Games.  In the first weekend of playoff games, Penn State wore its "Generations of Greatness" alternate set at home and Ohio State wore its all-scarlet outfit at home. Indiana went mostly all white in loss at Notre Dame. All three games were won easily by the favorites.
